Our Safety Commitment

Child Safety Is Not Optional

At Lajoieway, we believe every child deserves the highest level of protection. Discover our safety standards, certifications, and training programs.

Why Safety Matters

Road accidents are the leading cause of death for children under 14 in France. Proper child restraint systems reduce the risk of fatal injury by 70% for infants and 54% for toddlers. This is why we take safety seriously.

Our Car Seat Standards

We only use seats meeting the strictest European certifications

i-Size R129 Certification

The latest and strictest European standard for child car seats. Mandatory side-impact testing, rear-facing until 15 months minimum, classification by height.

ECE R44/04 Compliant

Our backup seats meet the ECE R44/04 standard, still legally valid and tested for frontal and rear impacts.

ADAC & Stiftung Warentest Rated

We select seats that score "Good" or better in independent German testing - the most rigorous in Europe.

Safety FAQ

What is the i-Size R129 standard?

i-Size (R129) is the latest European car seat regulation, introduced in 2013. It requires: mandatory rear-facing travel until at least 15 months, side-impact testing, height-based classification instead of weight, and ISOFIX installation. It offers better protection than the older ECE R44 standard.

How do I know which seat my child needs?

Car seats are categorized by height (i-Size) or weight (ECE R44). When you book with Lajoieway, simply tell us your child's age and we'll select the appropriate seat. As a guide: 0-12 months = infant carrier, 9 months-4 years = toddler seat, 4-10 years = booster seat.

Are your drivers trained to install car seats?

Yes, all Lajoieway drivers complete a mandatory car seat installation certification. They're trained on all seat types we use, proper harness adjustment, and safety checks. We also conduct random quality inspections.

Can I request a specific car seat brand?

While we can't guarantee a specific brand, all our seats are premium models from trusted manufacturers (Maxi-Cosi, Cybex, Joie) that meet or exceed i-Size R129 or ECE R44/04 standards.

What if my child falls asleep in the car seat?

Car seats are designed for travel, not extended sleeping. For journeys over 2 hours, we recommend taking a break. Never leave a sleeping child unattended in a car seat outside of a vehicle.

Do you clean the car seats between uses?

Yes, we clean and inspect every car seat between uses. Covers are washed regularly, and we check for any damage or wear. Seats showing signs of wear are replaced immediately.

Is a car seat mandatory in a taxi in France?

No, taxis in France benefit from a legal exemption (Article R412-2 of the French Highway Code). They can transport children without car seats in urban areas. However, this exemption does NOT apply to VTCs (Uber, Bolt, etc.). At Lajoieway, we always provide certified car seats because safety should never be optional.

What is the fine for no car seat in France?

The fine for transporting a child without an appropriate car seat in France is €135. This applies to private vehicles and VTCs. Only taxis have a legal exemption. Beyond the fine, the safety risk is the real concern: a proper car seat reduces fatal injury risk by up to 70% for infants.

What car seat for a 2-year-old in a VTC?

A 2-year-old (approximately 10-13 kg, 80-90 cm) needs a Group 1 car seat or an i-Size seat rated for their height. Ideally, the seat should be rear-facing for maximum safety. Lajoieway provides free Joie i-Spin 360 or Cybex Sirona seats, both supporting rear-facing until 4 years old.

Can I install 2 infant carriers for twins?

Yes! Our Mercedes V-Class vehicles have enough space for 2 infant carriers side by side on the back bench, plus a booster or Group 1 seat if needed. When booking, simply specify that you have twins and we'll prepare both seats. This is one of the advantages of our spacious van fleet.

What are the car seat requirements in France for tourists?

France requires all children under 10 years old (or under 135 cm) to use an approved child restraint system in vehicles. This applies to rental cars, VTCs, and private vehicles. Taxis have a legal exemption but it is not recommended. The fine is €135. Tourists visiting Paris with children should book Lajoieway: we provide free certified car seats so you don't need to bring your own from abroad.

Is a car seat required in Uber in France?

Yes, VTCs (including Uber, Bolt, and Kapten) are legally required to use child car seats in France — they do NOT benefit from the taxi exemption. However, Uber does not provide car seats in France. This means if you order an Uber with a child, you must bring your own seat or risk a €135 fine. Lajoieway is the only Paris VTC that provides free certified car seats on every ride.

Can I bring my own car seat in a taxi or VTC in Paris?

Yes, you can always bring your own car seat. However, installing an unfamiliar seat in a rush is stressful and risks improper installation. At Lajoieway, our drivers are trained to install our own certified seats (Maxi-Cosi, Cybex, Joie) correctly every time. It's safer, simpler, and the seats are free.

At what age can a child ride without a car seat in France?

In France, children must use an approved car seat until they reach 10 years old OR 135 cm in height. After that, the standard seat belt is sufficient. For children between 4 and 10 years, a booster seat with backrest is required. Lajoieway provides the appropriate seat for every age group, free of charge.
